Prezentare generala

In days of yore Scele was known under the name of The Seven Villages, the first attested being the villages of Baciu, Cernat, Satulung and Turche. It was mentioned in documents during the late 15th century, between 1482 and 1496. On July 23, 1950 the shepherd villages fused into one sole locality, the town of Scele.

In Scele one can visit a Department of Braov City Ethnography Museum set-up in the Tithe House (a monument of architecture dating from 1543), the Church of the St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel (17th century), St. Nicholas Church (1776 1808, with a steeple tower and a precincts wall), the Church of The Assumption of St. Mary Mother of God (1812 1819, painted by Miu Pop in 1874). The town still preserves old houses from the early 19th century. Scele is one of the starting points for the chalets on the Massifs Piatra Mare and Postvarul.
