Bucegi Mountains


Limits: North Cerbului Valley and Gljriei Valley, East  Prahova Valley, South  Subcarpathian Hills and massif Gurguiatu, West  Couloir Rucr-Bran.


They cover an area of 300 sq km with maximum height 2505 m, in Omu Peak.


Four areas with distinct morphology are to be noticed:

  • The northern area of Bucegi Mountains, with several dispersed ridges, separated by deep valleys with abrupt walls.
  • The abrupt of Prahova, largely devided.
  • The Plateau of Bucegi.
  • The abrupt of Bran, less divided and less high.

Protected Areas and Sights


Eastern face: Prahova Abrupt


North eastern face: Bucoiu Abrupt, Mlieti, Gaura


Altitude: 1000 – 2500 m


Protection for: complex relief, on limestone and conglomerate, karsts, fauna, flora.


Babele (The Old Women):

  • Peak offering a beautiful scenery
  • Solitary rocks mushroom shaped
  • Botanical reserve

Omu Peak: botanical reserve.


Ialomia Cave: in southern side of Btrâna Mountain, at 1660 m altitude, 1128 m long Znoagei Gorges, in south-west of the massif, on Ialomia Valley, karsts (gorges, caves).
