According to the latest historical research, Cobani village, situated at about 200 km from Chisinau, is the place with the earliest attested documents on the territory of the republic, that is, during the year of 1374, when it was called Zubreuti. Along the Prut river, nearby this village, lies one of the most impressive natural monuments in the country: a range of toltrels, something specific to the higher part of the Prut zone and is unique for Europe.

The biggest nature reservation of scientific interest in Moldova is situated on the meadowlands of the middle Prut river in a zone known as the “Padurea Domneasca” (185 km north of Chisinau). Along the river Prut, covering a vast area, a meadow forest extends with its characteristic species for this type of environment: willow-trees, oaks, poplars, beeches, etc.

One of the biggest caves in the world is situated in Criva village in the Edinet district (about 265 km north of Chisinau). The length of the underground galleries is more than 89,000 m and they are on several levels. The cave is considered to be on the 3rd largest gypsum cave in the world and the 8th in terms of the length of its underground paths. The cave was discovered in 1959 after an explosion in the gypsum quarry in the Criva.

The biggest park in Moldova is situated in the middle of Taul village (about 200 km north the Chisinau). The park surrounded the stylish manor house of the Pommers family at the beginning of the XXth c. It represents one of the most successful works of the landscape architect I.Vladislavschi-Padalco, highly appreciated by the elite of those times.

The oldest scientific nature reserve in Moldova is situated near Lozova, 50 km from Chisinau, and is called "Codrii". It was founded on September 27, 1971. Scientific nature reserves are highly protected and divided into 3 functional zones: a strictly protected zone, a buffer zone, and an intermediate zone.

Reservation includes 877 hectares - land and 270 - waters. It has aquatic and terrestrial ecologycal systems where have been createschemad perfect reproduction conditions for plants and animals. The scientific investigations of V.Chirtoaca, A.Istrati, A.Negru have emphasized 719 vascular plants within the reservation and they belong to the following systematic groups: Equisetophyta - 3 species, Polypodiophyta - 3 species, Pinophyta - 1 sp, Magnoliophyta 712 sp, trees - 33 sp, bushes - 36 sp, lians - 1 sp, herbs - 644 sp.

"Prutul de Jos" state natural reservation is created on Beleu lake, which is a relief of the Danubian freshwater shore, formed in a depression of the Prut river meadow, located west of the village Slobozia Mare. Lake Beleu is a great interest as a natural monument of great scientific value, cultural and aesthetic. Currently the water level in Lake Beleu largely depends on water level of Danube, respectively, of the Prut River, and varies depending on spring and summer floods.

The reservation's landscape variety: Is represented by picturesque narrow summits with deep valleys, steep slopes and crystal clear and cold spring waters which fill the tributary streams of Telita River which flows down into the Bic River. Within the reservation there are 6 kinds of wood: beech tree woods ( Fagus sylvatica), beech tree and evergreen Quercus petraea, Carpinus betulus and evergreen oak woods, ash tree, evergreen oak and linden tree woods, evergreen oak woods, pedunculate oak, maple (Acer) and Carpinus betulus woods, pedunculate oak tree woods, poplar and silky willow woods, Quercus robur.

"Cave surprises", long galleries of 1700 m, is the second largest in Moldova after the cave" Emil Racoviţă ", the third longest in Europe and sixth in the world. It is located in the forest from Zolonceni, the right bank of the Dniester River, a distance of 2 km northeast of the city Criuleni. It was discovered by amateur speleologist through 70 years of the twentieth century.
